Jeffrey Atencio
Spring 1999
Journalism Internship
- I learned how
to use Microsoft Access and input my stories into the main database
- I also learned
how to find stories in other newspapers, press releases, magazines and
other news sources so I could create new stories out of them
- I learned how
to edit and write stories on topics I had little knowledge in. By doing
this I was able to make something that was complex into something tangible
and easy to read
- I was shown how
to interview in a way in which the information I obtained was both useful
and interesting
- I learned how
to work on my own, be self-reliant and take the initiative in writing
my stories and doing them by a deadline
- Finally, I learned
that being a writer you have to try to write in a way that is unbiased,
clear (particularly in quoting people), information is accurate and
new and interesting
